Short puns
Short puns are the ones that have to survive a character limit. A username, a hashtag, a bio, a caption, a name badge, a team name, the front of a card with no room left on it. This page takes the one-word and short sections from every collection on the site and sorts them shortest-first within each theme, so the tightest options are always at the top of the list. There is a real craft constraint here that longer puns do not have. With one word you cannot set anything up, so the whole joke has to sit inside a word that already sounds like another word, which means the ones that work tend to be built on very common sounds. That is also why they are the most reusable material on the site: a single word drops into almost anything. Each section links to the full collection behind it.
What are short puns?
A short pun compresses the wordplay into a single word or a handful of words, with no setup at all. Because there is no room to explain anything, the second meaning has to be audible immediately, which is why short puns tend to be built on very familiar sounds.

Short puns FAQ
What is a one-word pun?
A pun that fits inside a single word, usually by swapping part of a common word for a themed sound, as in "purr-fect" or "egg-cellent". There is no setup, so the second meaning has to land the instant it is read.
What are short puns good for?
Anything with a character limit or no room for a sentence: usernames, hashtags, bios, captions, team names, name badges, shop signs, wifi networks and the front of greeting cards.
How do I make my own one-word pun?
Take your subject, list the sounds associated with it, then look for common words containing those sounds. Swap the sound in and say it out loud. If both words are still audible, it works. The generator does this for any word you give it.
Are short puns easier to write than long ones?
They are harder. A longer pun can use its setup to steer you toward the second meaning, but a one-word pun has no such help, so it only works when the sound match is very close.
Where can I find short puns about a specific topic?
Each section links to the collection it came from, and every collection on the site carries both a one-word section and a short-puns section on its subject.
